Shock

The signs and symptoms of shock are similar to many other medical conditions but, for first aid purposes, treatment is the same.


 Signs and Symptoms of Shock

  • Cool, clammy skin
  • Pale or bluish-gray skin
  • Rapid pulse
  • Rapid, shallow breaths
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Enlarged pupils
  • Weakness or fatigue
  • Dizziness or fainting
  • Changes in behavior

 If you suspect someone is in shock, get immediate medical attention.

 First Aid

  • If the person is not breathing, begin CPR
  • Have the person lay down
  • Loosen tight clothing and cover them with a blanket if necessary to keep them warm
