When the Unthinkable Happens
Engage the critical thinking area of the brain by taking a deep breath to slow your heart rate. Breathe in for a count of four, hold it for a count of four, and exhale for a count of four. These few seconds can save your life.
Assess the situation:
What is the hazard?
How severe is the hazard?
Where is the hazard coming from?
Think
Follow your training and instinct, not the crowd
Get yourself to safety
Call 911
Assist others if you can do so without putting yourself or others in danger
Take Action
Repeat this cycle until the danger has passed for you and your team.
